What is it like to work with Katana?

Senior People Operations Manager at Burning Man Project

Kate “Katana” Calderwood has spent the past year and a half doing work that most of us only glimpse from afar- quietly, steadily, and with diligence. As our real estate specialist, Katana’s role required not only technical skill but also grit, patience, and a true never-say-die spirit.

Katana joined us on the winding road of real estate development and permitting, helping the team navigate a complex and ever-shifting puzzle of requirements. Drawing on their architectural background, they brought clarity and structure to the early planning stages of our property improvements, helping ideas become plans and plans become something real and possible.

Senior Director of Community Events at Burning Man Project

Katana, Thank you for helping us navigate the challenging work of real estate development, permitting and planning. Wishing you all the best in your future work adventures.

Katana and I collaborated on a series of workshops in the north of Spain where we used art and creativity to explore the inner world and facilitated authentic expression from attendees. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working together. Katana is a driven, conscientious professional who is able to take ideas, provide structural frameworks for effective delivery and add a magic spark while doing so. She is fully committed to any projects she is involved with and this was evident in her enthusiasm and perseverance in getting things done well and on time! The events were a huge success, so much so we are planning to create a permanent residency and ensure we can keep bringing our skill sets back to our communities.

Katana! Thanks for sharing all your vibrance, intelligence, and wit. I loved bumping into you on playa, you’re always a breath of fresh air. Sending you good vibes, I know your next adventure will be as delightful as you are!

Katana, thank you for being someone I always looked forward to seeing and working with. I wish we could have had more time together, but I know I’ll see you around and am down to connect outside of Burning Man. Your spirit and resiliency are a beauty to witness!

Former Colleague in a Related Role · Onboarding & Transition Trainer at Burning Man Project

Slán go fóill! It was a pleasure meeting and training you. You stepped into a difficult job during an uncertain time and made the best of it. Thank you for your contributions to the sustainable development of our properties! I hope your path brings you back out to playa or that I get to see you again in some other way and place. Le dea-ghúí and keep in touch!
